Abu Dhabi: UAE has been honoured by the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) in the Middle East and North Africa region (MENA) for the Abu Dhabi police department’s efforts in setting up a Geographic Information System Security Centre.

The recognition comes as an appreciation of the outstanding role played by the Ministry of Interior in heading the workgroup that specialised in police, public safety and internal security. The project is said to have enriched the work related to specifications of geographical information structure for law enforcement purposes; generalised geospatial security applications and software; and unified the technical description standards of security mapping.

Director General of Central Operations also received the shield of excellence in leading institutional police geographical systems from the American Lockheed Martin Company who is the main host of the current quarterly periodic meeting and the co-head of the workgroup.

UAE had hosted meetings of the technical and planning committees in Abu Dhabi for the first time in the Middle East and North Africa region (MENA) region in March last year. The event was attended by scientists, engineers, technician and representatives of public and private sectors from various parts of the world.
