India: Over 300 delegates participated at the National Remote Sensing Centre’s (NRSC) 20th User Interaction Meet-2014 (UIM-2014). Er. A.B. Pandya, Chairman, Central Water Commission, Ministry of Water Resources was the Chief Guest and Dr. V.S. Hegde, Chairman & Managing Director, ANTRIX Corporation Limited was the Guest of Honour for the UIM-2014. Chief Guest in his speech highlighted the use of remote sensing technology for natural resources management in general and water resources in particular. He also emphasised the need for internalisation of the technology within the user organisation and adopting the same for more efficient management of natural resources.
Dr. V.S. Hegde, CMD, ANTRIX also inaugurated an exhibition that was arranged as part of UIM-2014. Around 60 exhibits were displayed in the exhibition showcasing the imaging capabilities of Indian Remote Sensing satellites and various remote sensing applications carried out by ISRO. A total of 10 technical sessions were conducted as part of UIM-2014, which included plenary, user sessions for government, academia, industry & contributed papers apart from an exclusive Hindi session. A total of 57 speakers delivered talks on various issues related to geospatial data products, services and its applications.
As part of the UIM-2014, a demonstration was arranged for enlightening the delegates about the capabilities of Bhuvan, which was attended by around 170 delegates. In addition to this, the new version of User Order Processing System (UOPS), which is expected to be released soon, was also demonstrated to the delegates. Dr. A.S. Kiran Kumar, Director, Space Application Centre, chaired the panel discussion, at the end of the UIM-2014. A live web streaming of the UIM-2014 proceedings was also arranged through NRSC website, which received a total of more than 1,200 connections.
