Umuahia, Nigeria: Abia State Government in Nigeria partnered with the United Nations (UN) Habitat to produce digital maps and master plans for Umuahia and Aba region. The partnership aims to construct over 8,500 units of different sizes of houses in the state to take care of accommodation problems of civil servants.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Housing, Nwabueze Onwuneme, said that the master plans would project physical and structural developments in the state for the next 20 years. Onwuneme added that the government had commenced the construction of 2,000 units of 3-bedroom bungalows in Amauba Housing Estate. In addition, the work is in advanced stage at Isieke Housing Estate where the government is constructing 1,500 units of 3-bedroom flats and 500 units of 4-bedroom duplexes.
The governor’s aide noted that by the time the master plan and survey were through, more areas would be mapped out for other housing estates in all parts of the state.
