US: Engility Holdings and National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) have introduced an innovative government programme to acquire geospatial applications from commercial developers. "Through the Innovative GEOINT App Provider Program (IGAPP), application developers will use unclassified geospatial data to build applications that will provide users with a wide range of content, including air, land and sea navigation information, as well as mapping and infrastructure imagery that would provide critical information in emergency situations," stated Tony Smeraglinolo, President and CEO, Engility.

According to a spokesperson from the company, IGAPP serves as a trusted broker between commercial vendors and government agencies who are interested in acquiring applications. The programme registers and approves vendors and provides the infrastructure and support to test and offer innovative mapping apps using data from NGA and other organisations that will then be available through the GEOINT App Store.
