https://www.futuregov.asia/photologue/photo/mekong-delta/Vietnam: Officials from the Rural Development and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the Ministry of Agriculture have recently handed over a geospatial database to the administration of Soc Trang province of Vietnam. Soc Trang recently joined the four other provinces in the Mekong Delta for a climate change adaptation programme.

This national project aims at helping provinces in the Mekong Delta develop an effective strategy to adapt to climate change and ensure sustainable natural resource exploitation. The geospatial database compiles authoritative data from various government agencies in Vietnam. Additionally, it also contains maps which dates back to 1904 and were only available in France. The database will provide decision makers with historical maps that would help them trace back the development of the coastline and to identify suitable and site-specific measures for coastal protection.
