Oman: The National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) is joining Oman Geospatial Forum 2017 as a Platinum Sponsor with the aim to encourage geospatial technologies for empowering Omanโs economic development. This event is scheduled to be held from 10-11 April 2017 at Oman Convention Centre in Muscat.
Hassan Alawi Al-Ghazali, Director General, NSDI, will be presenting at the opening session of the event. He will talk about the value of national spatial data infrastructure for Oman, and NCSIโs vision to take nation-building forward based on sound geospatial data infrastructure. NCSI will also showcase the latest developments in Omanโs spatial data infrastructure during the event.
As the nodal agency responsible for policy creation, stakeholder engagement and implementation of NSDI in Oman, NCSI is working with key stakeholders to align the One Map of Oman initiative, populating data from all stakeholders.
They are also developing numerous mobile applications based on currently available data, including Tour Oman (for Tourism), Bankey (Finance), Wakoudi (Auto) and Government Service Locator. NCSI also maintains a GeoPortal and GeoPlatform, primarily for data sharing purposes.
With the advent of NSDI and cataloguing of data sources, users across the country now enjoy easy and faster access to spatial information for a variety of purposes and developmental projects.
