Australia: NBN Co entered into an agreement pursuant to which NBN Co will use Australiaโs geocoded national address file, G-NAF, for address information to support the planning, roll-out and operation of the national broadband network.
The address information provided by G-NAF will be used to support NBN Coโs business. Developed and managed by PSMA Australia, G-NAF provides an authoritative geocoded record of more than 13.2 million physical addresses in Australia, with an average of more than 50,000 new addresses added every three months. Every address in the dataset includes details of locality, street and street number as well as longitude and latitude, providing each address with a unique geographic coordinate.
Through a press release, Dan Paull, PMSA Australia Chief Executive Officer stated, โThe original address data for G-NAF comes from authoritative government sources including state and territory mapping agencies and land registrations, the Australian Electoral Commission and Australia Post.
โG-NAF has a proven track record of supporting business critical systems in a wide range of industries including the telecommunications, insurance, banking and finance and utilities sectors. G-NAF also underpins Australiaโs National Address Management Framework that has been adopted by governments at all levels.โ
To protect privacy, G-NAF does not contain personal information, such as names or business types.
PSMA is the national provider of authoritative location information and services for Australia. The governments of Australia โ the shareholders of PSMA Australia Limited โ established the company so the nation could more easily access the benefits of managing information by location.
Through PSMA Australia, the governments of Australia are seeking a single point of truth for fundamental national location datasets. These datasets are fundamental in that they comprise an โinformation infrastructure’ that supports the delivery of multiple economic, social and environmental benefits by governments
