Sulzbach, Germany, 5 September 2006: NAVTEQ has been selected by NAVIGON to supply maps for its new MobileNavigator|6 navigation software. Pocket PCs, mobile phones and Personal Navigation Assistants (PNAs) use this software to navigate through over 30 countries in Europe – there are also optional maps for USA, Canada, the Middle East, South Africa and Russia.
In addition, MobileNavigator|6 features sophisticated route calculation offering not just the quickest or shortest route but also the optimum route. Using the map data, it works out the route which provides the best possible balance between journey time and petrol consumption. Alternatively, the Bellevue Route facility calculates the most scenic route and shows special tourist attractions such as Paris’ Eiffel Tower, the Tower of London or Brandenburger Tor in Berlin. Consequently, this navigation software can serve as tour guide in major cities.
Another special feature is dynamic route information which not only advises drivers how long it will take to reach the chosen destination but will also show personalised, favourite POIs along the route in the driving direction.
Finally, there is a new, intuitive user interface which can be easily mastered. It has already been tested by the German Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering.
