Namibian town fast-tracks development using GIS

< 1 Minute Read

Omaruru, Namibia: The Omururu Municipality recently set up GIS in conjunction with the Polytechnic of Namibia and the Tavastia Vocational Training College in Finland. With this development, Omaruru became geospatial-enabled town along with Windhoek, Rundu, Walvis Bay and Otjiwarongo in the country.

Using GIS, the Municipality aims to improve planning, operation, maintenance and management of mainly municipal infrastructure, and development and reporting of various financial, technical and environmental aspects of local government.

In addition, the Municipality Council has approved a budget of NAD 3 million (NAD: Namibian Dollar) for servicing of plots in Ozondje Township.
