Malaysia: According to a report published by Daily Express, the Malaysia government has been urged by Silam’s Member of Parliament to consider using satellite to monitor maritime activities in Sabah.

Silam MP, Datuk Datu Nasrun Datu Mansur, said satellite monitoring could complement the functions of the sea basing system that has been proposed to be implemented in waters off Sabah, through channelling integrated radar and optical information to it.

"The satellite will not only be useful in safeguarding security and monitoring the movements of vessels and fishery activities but also for search and rescue operations. There have been too many incidents of crime and we must combat them at all costs,” he said. Nasrun was also confident that the proposed sea basing system would prevent further incidents of kidnapping, piracy and smuggling off the east coast of Sabah.
