Malaysia, October 31, 2014: MIMOS Berhad, Malaysia's national R&D centre in ICT under purview of the Malaysian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaboratively undertake R&D activities.
In a statement issued to the media, MIMOS said the partnership was officiated in conjunction with the National Innovation Conference and Exhibition 2014 organised by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI).
The MoU aims to support MIMOS' Open Innovation Platform, which involves collaborative engagements with government agencies such as the Royal Malaysian Police, the Ministry of Health, Department of Immigration, Ministry of Defence, Performance Management and Delivery Unit (PEMANDU) and Department of Survey and Mapping (JUPEM).
The partnership will foster proactive technology and knowledge sharing between the two partners by facilitating joint R&D initiatives in accelerated technologies, cyber security, and Big Data Analytics (BDA).
MIMOS President and Chief Executive Officer Datuk Abdul Wahab Abdullah said that that MIMOS would engage in research and development activities using accelerated high-volume Geographic Information Systems [GIS] analytics – using MIMOS Accelerator Library (Mi-AccLib) technology, and Integrity Platform (Mi-Trust) for GIS data leakage protection and custom-made geoprocessing tools.
Technologies developed by MIMOS were capable of analysing high-volume geospatial information at a reduced infrastructure, he added. "This capability will allow Malaysia to strengthen its defence and security agencies with the combined power of location-based technology and acceleration technology, at a low cost."
Both parties will also conduct training programmes to develop and harness the geospatial skill sets of the local talent pool.
