Microsoft signs MoU with West Bengal government for e-governance

Microsoft Corporation India has signed an agreement with the West Bengal government for state-wide roll out of its project ‘Bhasa’ which is aimed at accelerating local language computing. The State IT minister Manab Mukherjee, present on the occasion, said the initiative would enable the government to accelerate its e-governance and computer literacy programmes.

As per the agreement, the company would collaborate with the government for the deployment of freely downloadable Bengali language interface pack for Microsoft Windows and Office in all government departments. “Microsoft would also develop customisable Bengali language applications and undertake system integration, build a pool of dedicated manpower and set up a Bhasa Localisation Lab at a premier educational institution”, Ranjiv Jit Singh company director (businss and marketing operations) said.
