Canada: The national association of private sector geospatial firms, known as MAPPS, has released a guideline on Best Practices for firms' which are handling geospatial data. The guideline was developed in response to a report by the Federal Trade Commission seeking to protect the privacy of individual citizens' sensitive data, including precise geolocation data, including, an address for example. The MAPPS guideline lends assistance to firms when deciding whether individual consent for collection of geospatial data should be obtained, and when it is not needed to protect privacy.
