MapInfo Corporation announced that it will donate its leading location-based intelligence solutions to 100 local government municipalities in the United States for the development and deployment of homeland security and continuity initiatives. MapInfo’s software and data will help assist small- to medium -sized municipalities leverage location intelligence to protect its people and assets through detection, preparedness, prevention, protection and disaster recovery.
MapInfo’s location-based intelligence technology enables government organizations, such as FEMA, US Marshals Service and the New York City Police Department, to easily visualize, understand and view data about people, places and resources. MapInfo’s homeland security solutions are ideal for planning and personnel and asset management, as well as rapid reaction and response to emergency situations.
MapInfo software easily integrates with existing IT infrastructure, eliminating the need for additional technology investments. Both internal and external databases can be accessed with MapInfo, so multiple government organizations can share data in different formats. With the power to convert any address or landmark into a point on a map, MapInfo’s homeland security solutions enable government organizations to make better-informed decisions to protect its citizens and assets.
Municipalities with populations of less than 150,000 are eligible for MapInfo s Government Grant Program. To qualify, they must also submit a homeland security, public safety or continuity of government plan for the use of MapInfo software. Selected municipalities will receive:
