MapInfo Corporation has announced MapInfo MapX® Mobile, the premier Windows-based software developer’s tool for creating customized mapping applications on Pocket PC devices. With MapX Mobile, developers can easily create custom-made applications that empower the mobile workforce with the ability to access, gather and analyse critical business information, resulting in increased productivity and enabling them to make faster, better-informed business decisions.
MapInfo MapX Mobile will support the leading Pocket PC devices, including the Compaq® iPAQ(TM) and the HP Jornada(TM). Applications developed using MapInfo MapX Mobile will also work with miAware(TM), MapInfo’s mobile location services platform.
MapInfo MapX Mobile is the ideal tool for any organization with a mobile workforce looking to improve efficiency and productivity. For the first time, field workers can access and update critical information beyond corporate walls and make immediate decisions. Additionally, the information gathered from the field can be transferred to a desktop and/or server for advance data mining and enhanced decision-making. MapInfo MapX Mobile addresses an organization’s need to be able to receive, view and analyse data wherever critical decisions are made — in both the field and the enterprise.
Companies in virtually all industries can benefit from MapInfo MapX Mobile. For instance, emergency or law enforcement personnel can use MapInfo MapX Mobile for planning purposes to prevent and respond to emergency situations and to input areas affected by an accident, crime or disaster while responding to the emergency.
For telecommunication and wireless operators MapInfo MapX Mobile will be used to improve operations, including asset management, mobile information access and location-based services.
MapInfo MapX Mobile allows for interoperability, enabling users to add mobile extensions to existing applications. For example, users of MapInfo® TargetPro® can transfer demographic and site analysis reports to a handheld device and then view the information at a potential retail site to analyse important information such as traffic patterns and surrounding area attributes. Users can now assess site decisions in real-time and update that information for further consideration. The collected data can then be distributed to decision-makers within the organization through MapInfo® MapXtreme®, further enhancing the overall decision-making process.
