Malaysian Airplane search: Satellite image footprint still inadequate?

Malaysia: As the search intensifies to trace the Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, an interactive map created by Mapbox showing the imagery footprints of the search area proves that we still do not have the complete satellite coverage of the area. The map that depicts data from DigitalGlobe, Astrium, NASA/USGS, BlackBridge, Skybox and South Korea, shows despite the search operations have been on for about a week.

Terming it real needle-in-the-haystack problem, DigitalGlobe has already opened its crowd sourcing platform Tomnod for volunteers to search part of the plane’s search zone using detailed satellite images posted online. Airbus Defence and Space has also mobilised its five satellites to help locating the Malaysia Airlines missing aircraft.
