L&T Construction, a wholly-owned subsidiary of theย Larsen & Toubroย conglomerate, announced the completion of India’s first 3D printed two-storey building, as claimed by the company.

The news is an achievement for the company, for it validatesย the use ofย 3D printingย in a multi-floor building. The announcement is also proof that the 3D printing technology can be used for construction purposes as well.

It also depicts that the technology has immense potential to solve the issue of affordable housing including cost, quality and speed of construction.

M. V. Satish, Director & Senior Executive Vice President of Buildings at L&T, states, โ€œ3D concrete printing is one of the technology disruptors with the potential to radically redefine construction methodologies and I am extremely happy that by demonstrating our growing expertise in 3D printing, we are well positioned to push the boundaries of automated robotic construction.โ€

The 3D printing technology in terms of construction can potentially meet the Indian standards of construction code, and regulatory requirements as well as provide operational benefits to the companies.

L&T states that it had attempted its first stint at 3D printing houses, with a 240 square feet 1BHK apartment back in November 2019. Now, the two-storey building covers an area of almost three times the first trial apartment (with 700 square feet built-up area), and also exhibits if 3D printing can make buildings with multiple floors โ€“ an aspect that is crucial for affordable housing, states News18
