LocatioNet and Ericsson Enter Into Global Distribution Agreement

< 1 Minute Read

LocatioNet Systems, a wireless location-based services (LBS) provider, and Ericsson, a leading telecom supplier, have announced that they have entered into a global distribution license and service agreement. As per the agreement, Ericsson will resell and support the LocatioNet LBS middleware platform to Ericsson’s worldwide customer base. The LocatioNet solution, that is utilizing Ericsson’s mobile positioning products, comprises a comprehensive LBS middleware platform, a best-of-breed GIS engine, and an add-on suite of LBS applications. The agreement will leverage Ericsson’s distribution network to offer wireless carriers and application service providers with LocatioNet’s leading technological products.

With all of the problematic integration challenges facing LBS, an effective middleware LBS solution demands that all required service elements (end-user devices, service applications, content providers, GIS engines, position determination technologies, operator infrastructure, etc.) be properly integrated.

Wireless carriers have come to realize that a cohesive LBS middleware platform will allow them to benefit from a one-time integration, together with unified and properly controlled privacy, billing and service policies. Such a platform will ease further integration of any number of applications at significantly reduced cost, while offering the flexibility required to support future emerging needs.

An open API and a user-friendly software development kit (SDK) make LocatioNet’s middleware platform, combined with Ericsson’s MPS, a winning solution not just for wireless carriers but also for GIS, content and application providers. Application developers can easily and seamlessly implement new service applications, focusing on user interface and relieved from LBS complex technicalities.
