The Locate Conference (Locate16) is the national event of the spatial and surveying industries of Australia and New Zealand.
The event is an initiative of the Surveying & Spatial Sciences Institute (SSSI), Spatial Industries Business Association (SIBA) and Geospatial Information & Technology Association (GITA).
Locate16 is open to all industries and welcomes the ongoing discussion of how technology developed within the spatial and surveying communities can be used to improve the way we work, live and play in smarter societies.
The Conference program will feature four streams focusing on how the spatial and surveying industries are essential to our prosperity, protection, sustainability and ability to grow (build).
PROSPER
Our long-term prosperity depends upon globally competitive industries. Spatial technology and location information drive down business costs and provide new opportunities for growth in food and agribusiness, mining and resources, energy, manufacturing and health.
PROTECT
Significant financial and social costs are borne by our increasingly urbanised society when disaster strikes. The safety our communities continue to depend heavily on the effective use of spatial technology and location information by emergency services, transport safety, the insurance industry, defence, health and utilities.
SUSTAIN
We seek to end poverty and war, take action on climate change, manage our unique landscapes sustainably, and have secure and affordable access to water and energy. The achievement of this global agenda cannot be realised without the continued application of spatial technology and location information.
BUILD
Our society cannot function without spaces in which to live, work and play, nor without essential supporting water, sewerage, energy, and transport infrastructure. Building Information Modelling and 3D cadastres reduce costs, provide greater certainty and improve the quality of asset construction and management.
The Exhibition (Market Day) is designed to introduce the latest technology and services of the spatial and surveying industries to end-users; encourage networking for greater collaboration amongst organisations; and provide an opportunity for educators, students and the public to meet professionals working in the industry.
Finally, the Asia Pacific Spatial Excellence Awards (APSEA) celebrates the achievements of our industries over the past year with awards delivered by the host organisations: SIBA, SSSI, and GITA.
