< 1 Minute Read

Nairobi, 31 May 2007: Kenya National Library Services (KNLS) has announced the launch of an Environmental Information System developed for the Nakuru town in Kenya.

The interactive information exchange section works based on the Open Knowledge Network (OKN) a knowledge and information sharing facility. The OKN has Nakuru Urban Observatory – a GIS database that enables users to access environmental information and knowledge. The database gives a pictorial representation of the surroundings of Nakuru town. Users of the community can access the information for free.

The community environmental resource centre was constructed together with support from partners including Arid Lands Information Network (ALIN), Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Municipal Council of Nakuru (MCN) Waste Netherlands and the Kenya Library Services.
