Indonesia: The Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) in Indonesia has developed a GIS-based Agriculture Field Survey System to maximise field productivity, perform data editing and analysis.
The MoA used the desktop GIS software customised by SuperGIS Desktop 3.1a to visualise and analyse field data. The system allows MoA to collect data for all crop types and conditions. Surveyors use this system to measure farmland areas, add attributes, and take pictures for crops using mobile GIS and GPS tools. The system allows agricultural data to be uploaded on server and thus provides real situation of fields, corps, and pesticides. It enables the ministry to perform precise measurement of farmland size in each district. The system has been effective in reducing wastage of resources. The system is aimed at enabling MoA to make wise decisions on granting funding with scientific methods.
