India: The Uttar Pradesh government, in an effort to attract investment and boost industrial growth, is soon considering use of a GIS system for mapping unused industrial land. As a consequence, it would be easier for investors to select a site online.
Besides the Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping, it was also suggested at a meetingl on July 15, 2014 that labour pools be created to provide skill-specific workforce to industries.
The shift towards GIS as an enabler was discussed in a meeting chaired by Sanjeev Saran, Principal Secretary, UP infrastructure and industrial development.
"Industrial growth is imperative for economic development. In the current scenario, improvement in doing business environment seeks to be addressed by easing the procedures and use of information technology for time-bound clearances," held Saran.
