Indian state to use GIS for several planning initiatives

Goa: The Goa government will implement GIS system for the entire state. Information about public works department, water supply, roads and the electricity departments will be included in the software for effective planning and decision making process.

Sources in the department of information technology said that the department has conducted several meetings and has obtained inputs from the land use related departments such as town and country planning, settlement and land records, agriculture, forest, water resources along with public works, health services, etc.

Based on the inputs received in these meetings, the department of information technology has formulated a project proposal for the GIS project, sources said.

The project proposal has been sent to the national e-governance division, department of electronics and information technology, government of India under World Bank assisted “India e-Delivery of Public Services DPL project” for approval and necessary funding for roll out in the near future, sources said.
