Proposed capital zones as identified by the APSRSCIndia: The Andhra Pradesh government has recommended eight capital zones using remote sensing data.

The recommendations were based on 20 scientific indicators including surface water availability, availability of degraded forest land, ground water, air, sea and road connectivity.

The Andhra Pradesh State Remote Sensing and Application Centre (APSRSC ) used remote sensing data to zero in on locations like Marutur, Donakonda of Prakasham district and Vinukonda of Guntur district.

Musunur (near Eluru and Nuzivid) in Krishna district, Mangalagiri, Macherla, Bollapalli, Pulichintala in Guntur district are among the other capital zones identified.

The Centre-appointed Sivaramakrishna Committee had rejected Macherla and Pulichintala stating ‘both are on the border of Telangana and prima facie many not be attractive locations for capital functions’.
