India: The state of Maharashtra in India has identified around 20 monuments which will soon become a part of the repository of satellite-based surveillance photographs. The project has been undertaken by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). These agencies have joined forces to map and provide management plans for heritage sites and monuments of national importance. The project involves creation of high resolution digital images of all monuments and its surrounding areas to curb illegal structures around them.
