Stressing on the need to take space technology to the village level, Indian Space Research Organisation Chairman G Madhavan Nair said this was the only way it could be used in overall development of the country.

”The benefits of space technology should not be limited to the elites living in urban areas,” Mr Nair said after inaugurating a special training course conducted by the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS).

The two-week course, began yesterday as part of the ASEAN-India cooperation in space technology, is being attended by officials from Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia.

IIRS is a premier institute imparting training and education in the field of remote sensing for peaceful utilisation of space technology.
