India: India’s Railways Ministry wants to leverage information technology to improve the efficiency of its network. For this purpose, the Ministry wants to focus on technologies like GIS, Cloud, analytics and predictive analysis. The officials want to integrate applications to make real-time information readily available. Locomotives and wagons will be installed with proximity or RFID sensors. They would be tracked using GPS or GIS technology. A member of the Railways IT advisory council tells that the focus is to bring in more efficiency, build in more safety and integrate various operations of railways through technology.
