Indian Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Parshottam Rupala announced that the benefits of the Kisan Credit Card scheme have been extended to fishermen.
Previously limited to farmers, this scheme provides financial support through credit cards tailored to agricultural needs. Moreover, the government in collaboration with the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), has developed an instrument to assist fishermen in identifying their precise location and facilitating communication with shore-based personnel, Rupala said.
By extending this scheme to fishermen, the government aims to provide similar financial assistance and support, recognising the significant contribution of individuals engaged in the fishing sector to the country’s economy.
