India: The Indian government has finalized its plans to take help from Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to keep a check on illegal extraction of minerals in the country. Authorities will make use of remote sensing technology and check the satellite images of the mines every 15-30 days to track illegal mining operations. Officials say that the state of Maharashtra, which is already monitoring illegal mining with the help of remote sensing technology, is willing to share the experiences with other states. It is also being said that the draft of Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM)-ISRO MoU for tracking major minerals by IBM has been finalized.
