Summus, Inc. a developer of applications and information processing tools that optimize the wireless experience, and Unisys Corp, a global technology services and Solutions Company, announced that they have formed a partnership to develop a new type of weather service for mobile users.

Unisys Weather Meter, powered by BlueFuel(TM), provides mobile users with immediate access to real-time weather services customized for local geographic areas. The new service allows users to access localized, near-distance radar images, track moving storm fronts, and monitor weather-related metrics for a specific location. It also provides an alert system that notifies the user of developing storm conditions and weather-related hazards. This service effectively transforms the cellular phone into a sophisticated “weather meter.” The mobile weather service will be powered by BlueFuel, Summus’ Superfast, Superthin(TM) mobile platform tailored for efficient and easy interaction with information in the mobile environment. In this case, BlueFuel enables a quick download of weather maps with great clarity — a solution with unparalleled performance, which delivers a superior end-user experience. Unisys will provide the weather graphics and text information content for the mobile service.

Unisys Weather Information Services provides real-time, leading edge weather data globally to customers such as major airlines, the National Weather Service and the Federal Aviation Administration. Unisys, an innovator in the weather services market, designed, developed, and installed the Next Generation Weather Radar (NEXRAD) system for the U.S. National Weather Service. Summus is providing the integrated product to its major wireless carrier clients and it will be available to wireless subscribers in Q2 2003.
