US: HERE has just released its HERE HD Live Map, a new Cloud-based mapping technology that may be used in the driverless cars of the future. The Cloud-based map was unveiled by the company at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas on Tuesday.
The HD Live Map provides a more detailed view of the road, allowing vehicles to see around the corners and enables users to operate without depending on the car sensors. HERE's new mapping service is self-maintaining, meaning it can update in near real-time. HD Live Map goes several steps further than simply detailing the pattern of streets and highways, HERE explained. The HD Live Map service incorporates things like real-time road construction and traffic accidents, how fast other cars tend to drive on certain streets, and how many lanes a highway has.
