UK Perspectives has won three national government orders to supply the MAPS ortho dataset (the first fully ortho rectified image dataset of England) amounting to over 300,000 1km tiles in Enhanced Compressed Wavelet (ECW) format.
Department of Environment Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) purchased nationwide MAPS ortho as part of the EU administrative responsibility for subsidy payments under IACS (integrated Administration and Control System). Aerial imagery displays real world features, once ortho rectified, the ECW imagery can be used as a ‘ground truth’ verifying documented boundaries and ownership.
The Countryside Agency is already using MAPS® ortho to determine rights of way for the creation of the definitive land access map of England. MAPS® ortho ECW dataset provides an accurate base on which new mapping is directly digitized.
English Nature requires MAPS ortho ECW imagery to interpret and map the extent and area of various habitats around the country. Ortho recficcation ensured all delivered data was positionally correct and suitable for use with GIS.
