US, September 19, 2014: Google is planning to test delivery of wireless internet by drones in a New Mexico site.
It has filed an application with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) seeking permission to conduct drone tests in New Mexico.
Two blocks of frequencies will be tested and the exercise is scheduled to last about six months and begin in October.
In its application to FCC, Google said it wants to use two blocks of frequencies, one between 910MHz and 927MHz and one between 2.4GHz and 2.414GHz. Both are so-called “industrial, scientific and medical” (ISM) bands typically used for unlicensed operations.
