GIS-based property mapping in Bengaluru, India

< 1 Minute Read

Bengaluru, India: Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) in Bengaluru, India, has mapped nearly 1.6 million properties by using GIS. Interestingly, the property database that’s presently been updated for the first block period for 2008-09 reveals that till date, only a little above 0.9 million properties have been assessed for tax. That’s just about 56% of the properties in the city. A majority of the properties in the newly added areas and the vacant plots are yet to come under the tax bracket.

Bharat Lal Meena, BBMP commissioner, said, “With the property database almost ready now, we are technically equipped to handle the non-taxpayers. We have already sent out notices to some of these property owners.โ€

Work on the property database started in September 2008. The overall survey reveals that the city now has more number of high-rise apartments than independent houses and villas.
