Transpetrol, the national crude oil pipeline in Slovakia is managed by PROGIS’ PipeGIS solution since October 2001. Six months after implementation, their local partner GAMO, a specialist on IT services, is telling the success story:
When GAMO got the RIS (Oil pipeline information system) project for the prototype of a Pipeline Management System for TRANSPETROL, they started to investigate which software and which company could help them. Pipeline systems in scores of countries around the world differ in purpose, size, complexity, operating environment, regulatory requirements, economic conditions and design philosophy. Also they found that there were different existing pieces of software but each one was for a specific thematic and no one was integrating all in one. Also Geographical Information Systems (GIS) are becoming increasingly useful and beneficial to the pipeline industry. In this contest, PROGIS Software AG and its PipeGIS application was the right solution.
The adjustment and improvement of customer requirement, the intuitive and easy to use interface, additional modules, the integration with existing system (SCADA, LEOS, CMMS) was all completed and integrated in PipeGIS in a reasonable time.
The application was divided in following modules:
- Spatial Data Management: For the integration of all data in the system (spatial and not)
- Operational Support: For the localization of technical attributes on geographical objects, administration of operational information and integration of external system (SCADA, electronic archive)
- Maintenance Support: For the administration and localization of maintenance activity (SAP R/3)
- Risk Analysis: For the identification of risk assessments, priority of the maintenance and verify of the Pipeline Rehabilitation Plan
- Response Emergency Plan: For the on-line access to spatial data around accidents, coordination of steps for accident liquidation
The graphic user interface permits promptly access to all the relevant data in a time without useless windows or items. The integration with the external system permits the continuously monitoring of the operational pressure and other relevant data direct from PipeGIS. They could be shown in a graph or saved for historical archive.
Additional modules like Video Control system, Routing, Pipebook generator give us the possibility to offer new services or to integrate them also in the application. Web solution, Risk Analysis, Mobile equipment and GPS are the next modules that are in development by PROGIS and third party specialists. These modules will be offering new functions and methods to improve the control and the maintenance of this complex world.
