Salzburg: The 9th Annual GI_Forum 2015, organised by the Interfaculty Department of Geoinformatics – Z_GIS, concluded at the University of Salzburg, Austria. More than 1000 participants benefited from a variety of topics covered across 83 technical sessions and 20 workshops. The keynote addressed and invited speeches that were focused on interrelated themes such as big data, open data and standards, smart cities, internet of things and spatial citizenship. Josef Strobl, Head of Z_GIS, delivered the inaugural speech and the keynote speakers included Ingo Simonis, Director, Interoperability Programmes and Science, OGC, Manfred Hauswirth, Professor, TU Berlin, Sarah and Robert Bednarz, Texas A & M University and Inga Gryl & Thomas Jekel. “Geoinformation makes the whole information that we produce relevant, without the location information is less important“. He further highlighted that ‘big data’ is flowing through various networks and ‘Internet of Things’, which will enhance its usability.
