The Province of Manitoba in Canada has awarded Fugro a 4-year contractย toย develop a new pavement management system that willย guideย strategic selection of road maintenance projects for optimized use of transportation budgets.ย Joining Fugro on the contract is AgileAssets, a software company specializing in infrastructure asset management.ย The Fugro-AgileAssetsย partnershipย willย provideย Manitoba with comprehensive expertise in pavement engineering, consulting and management systems implementation.
The new contract follows years of successful collaboration between Fugro and the province, starting with Manitobaโs 2016 purchase of a Fugroย 3D Automatic Road Analyzer (ARAN) survey vehicle and iVision softwareย for automated pavement data acquisition and analysis. Fugro has supported the vehicle, equipment and software since that time, including development of customized iVision tools for rating pavement distress.
Features of the new pavement management system,ย powered by AgileAssetsโ Pavement Analystโข,ย include pavement decision trees, calculation of pavement condition indices, segment–ย and networkโlevel performance models,ย and multi–year networkโlevel analysesย examiningย pavementย conditionย dataย within the contextย ofย site and budget constraints.ย These capabilitiesย willย helpย managersย predict futureย roadย conditionsย and proactively timeย maintenanceย work.ย As a result,ย Manitobaย will be able toย better prioritizeย theirย capital improvements, extend pavement lifeย cycles and contribute to a low-carbon economyย with smooth–drivingย roadsย thatย maximize theย fuel efficiencyย of vehicles.
โItโs a pleasure to continue our work with Manitobaย on thisย new and robustย pavement management system,โ said Denis Charland, Fugroโsย Roadsย Service Line Directorย in the Americas. โWeย alsoย look forward toย collaborating with AgileAssets onย the project,ย together delivering Manitoba a solution that will serve their long-term needs for a safe and sustainable roads system.โ
