Imagine a drone delivering your medicines or dropping off first aid kits for you during any emergency. To make this a reality, Flipkart and DroneAcharya Aerial Innovations are teaming up with the ITE&C Department of the Govt. of Telangana to implement ‘Medicine from the Sky’ EOI. The initiative aims to deploy drones over areas with complex terrain and tough accessibility. Medical supplies would be the primary load that is to be carried by these drones.
DroneAcharya has partnered with industry experts like Flipkart, Skye Air Mobility and Altitude Angel to make the BVLOS deliveries possible. Drones can easily face the hard-hitting reality of excessive distances and difficult terrains to reach geographically remote citizens. As for ‘Medicine from the Sky’, the project is in association with the World Economic Forum, NITI Aayog, and HealthNet Global. It involves undertaking experimental Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) drone flights for delivery of vaccines using the identified airspace of Vikarabad, Telangana.
“The objective of ‘Medicine from the Sky’ was to generate insights that can drive future adoption strategies and policy interventions for inclusion of drones in the healthcare supply chain”, says Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary of IT for the ITE&C Department. “As disruptive as they may be, drones are contributing to every mainstream industry today. Drones are unavoidable and inevitable”, says Prateek Srivastava, CEO of DroneAcharya.
In the early 2000s, drones in the Indian airspace were exclusively used for military purposes. Commercial drones flights were not a part of the foray. However, markets have proven to be fruitful for the authorities to engage in drone flights and have brought about a change in their outlook for UAVs.
