First monitoring station for GLONASS launched in Brazil

Brazil: The first overseas GLONASS ground station for differential correction and monitoring to improve the navigation system”s accuracy has been launched in Brazil, the Federal Space Agency announced.

“On February 19, Russian Space Systems launched the ground station for differential correction and monitoring of GLONASS in the capital of Brazil. This station will be the first point of correction in the western hemisphere and will significantly improve the accuracy of GLONASS navigation signals,” a spokesman for the Federal Space Agency said.

In Russia, such stations ensure accurate positioning in the northern hemisphere. Further stations must be built to improve the accuracy of GLONASS in the western hemisphere, the spokesman said.
