The GPS Aided Geo Augmented Navigation (GAGAN) system being developed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) in association with ISRO will be operational within a year. The AAI decided to implement an indigenous satellite based regional GPS augmentation system, also known as Space-based Augmentation System (SBAS), as part of the Satellite Based Communication, Navigation, Surveillance/ Air Traffic Management (ATM) plan for civil aviation. The Indian SBAS is called GAGAN.
