Facebook may introduce location-based mobile ads

< 1 Minute Read

US: Facebook is currently working on a new smartphone app that will come supercharged with location-based services, according to a report published by Bloomberg. The development of such a platform would enhance the social network”s mobile monetisation efforts, enabling it to push targeted deals and ads to users based on where they are.

Due for a mid-March release, the app would also allow users to search for nearby friends, tracking users even when it”s closed, which is likely to concern a number of users. Facebook spokesman Derick Mains declined to comment. Meanwhile, users can currently use the Facebook Nearby feature to check-in at locations.

The company recently posted its Q4 earnings, revealing that mobile daily active users had passed desktop web users for the first time, while mobile ads accounted for 23 per cent of total ad revenue.
