Eurimage preparing for distribution of data from the European Space Agency’s Envisat Satellite

< 1 Minute Read

Eurimage, leader of the EMMA team, is preparing for the distribution of the data from the European Space Agency1s Envisat satellite, successfully launched on March 1.

Testing and calibration of the satellite and its sensors has continued and the first images are now available. Eurimage will start distribution in September, after completion of the 6-month commissioning phase of the satellite.

Envisat will ensure data continuity with ERS, adding enhanced capabilities such as the ASAR (Advanced Synthetic Aperture Radar) sensor with multiple polarisation and variable viewing angles, imaging swaths and resolutions, an on-board storage system and a package of new instruments.

Eurimage serves the worldwide market as Master Distributor within the EMMA team. It is also in charge of setting up agreements with ground station operators and/or organisations wishing to downlink Envisat data locally at their own ground stations.

Eurimage will continue to run, for Envisat as well as ERS, both commercial and research programs such as the Eurimage Research Club (ERC) and the Eurimage Business Development Intitiative (EBDI), offering discounts starting at 50%. It will also continue to promote combined use of radar data alongside optical data sets, including the new high-resolution data from DigitalGlobe’s QuickBird satellite, for which Eurimage is the exclusive distributor in Europe and the Mediterranean basin.

The members of the EMMA team combine an extensive range of competencies, from data
reception at ground receiving stations, to data distribution, value added products and applications.
