The European Commission has come out with a vision and approaches for Europeโs digital transformation by 2030. The โvision for the EUโs digital decadeโ is based on four key pillars โ skills, government, infrastructures and business.
The Commission said that the four areas are part of Europeโs Digital Compass, which will translate the EUสผs digital ambitions for 2030 in concrete terms. The document further mentions some challenges for secure and sustainable digital infrastructures, such as โGigabit for everyoneโ, โ5G everywhereโ, doubling the EU share in the global semiconductor production, 10,000 โclimate neutral highly secure edge nodesโ, and the first computer with quantum acceleration.
As far as the potential areas of partnerships are concerned, the document lists 6G, Quantum and the use of technology to fight Climate Change and environmental challenges. The Commission wants to accelerate and facilitate the launch of multi-country projects, building on the Recovery and Resilience Facility, the Cohesion Funds and other EU funding. It has expressed its intention to propose a Digital Policy program operationalizing the Digital Compass by the end of the summer, and plans an inter-institutional declaration on Digital Principles by end the of this year.
