Esri India Announces GIS Scholarships

Esri India, the countryโ€™s Geographic Information System (GIS) Software & Solutions provider, has announced INR 10 lakh worth of scholarships for 10 deserving students at the post-graduate level.

Indiaโ€™s geospatial technology industry is expected to grow at 12.8% to be around โ‚น63,100 crores by 2025. The adoption of GIS is increasing phenomenally in varied industries and accordingly, the need for a geospatially skilled workforce is increasing multifold. Through these scholarships, Esri India intends to encourage students to gain competence in GIS and build a fruitful career.

The merit-based scholarships of INR 1 lakh each will be awarded to Indian students who are beginning the 2nd year of their post-graduate course (M.Tech/MSc.) in Geoinformatics or a course that involves studying remote sensing, GIS, spatial modeling, spatial analysis, digital image processing for GIS and related subjects at an institute/university in India.

Commenting on the development, Agendra Kumar, Managing Director, Esri India said,There is an increased demand for GIS skilled professionals across sectors. The use of GIS technology is not only crucial for creating a sustainable future but also for driving growth to take India towards its goal of building a $5 trillion economy. According to government estimates, the increased usage of GIS is likely to create 10 lakh jobs by 2025. This Masters Scholarship in GIS will encourage students to gain higher competence in GIS and help them become job ready. This is one of the many steps taken by Esri India to strengthen the geospatial skill development in the country.โ€

Esri India has been collaborating with academic institutes at all levels by way of learning resources, events, and training programs so that students can embark on GIS education, training, and research in a timely manner.
