8 October 2006 – Experts of the European Commission are satisfied with the progress Bulgaria is making with the digital orthophoto map of its territory, the Agriculture Ministry has announced.
The experts have visited Bulgaria and talked to the supervisor of the map project and they came to the conclusion that the quality of the digital map answers to EC requirements. The preparation of such a map is an important element of the groundwork for establishing a Land Parcel Identification System (LPIS), as part of the Integrated Administrative Control System (IACS).
Establishing a payment agency and IACS, for the EU funds to be acquired through, after 2007, is one of the priorities before the Ministry, as it is required under the Agriculture chapter. One of the EC’s serious issues with Bulgaria is the agriculture sector, where accompanying post-accession measures may feature the cut of cashflow from EU structural funds.
