Dutco Tennant establishes network RTK system

2 Minutes Read

Dubai, UAE: Dutco Tennant LLC (DT), the authorised distributor for Leica Geosystems in the United Arab Emirates, announced the establishment of a Network RTK (Real-time Kinematic) system for the entire emirate of Ras Al Khaimah. A team of engineers and surveyors from Dutco Tennant and Ras Al Khaimah Town Planning department surveyed the emirate and concluded that a network of five reference stations would be able to cover the entire emirate. Subsequently, it was decided that these reference stations would be based at Sham, Jazeerah, Asimah, Kadra and Huwaylat.

The project would be executed in five phases. The first phase of the project is currently underway and is expected to be completed in the next three to four months. The project will make Ras Al Khaimah the sixth emirate in the UAE to implement the Leica Reference Station Network.

The hardware components in the recently established network system consists of Leica GR10 Reference Station Receiver and Leica AR10 High Performance GNSS Reference Station Antenna while the software component is the Leica GNSS Spider, which is an integrated software suite for centrally controlling and operating GNSS reference stations and networks. The most significant aspect of this project is the comprehensive, all-encompassing โ€œLeica Spiderโ€ technology at the heart of the system.

An RTK Network is a network of permanent GNSS receivers. The combined data from these receivers is used to generate RTK corrections for a rover. These network generated RTK corrections are called Network RTK. RTK Networks can vary in size from small local networks consisting of only a few reference stations to huge networks that consist of dozens of reference stations covering a whole country.
