DJI, a global company specializing in civilian drones and aerial imaging technology, has joined the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) Integration Pilot Program (IPP) at Memphis International Airport.
DJIÂ joins several local participants involved in the Memphis program, including the City of Memphis, Memphis Fire Department, Memphis Police Department, Tennessee Department of Transportation Division of Aeronautics, FedEx, AirXOS, Measure, Avitas, and 901Drones.
The Memphis UAS IPP program is using DJI drones to explore the safety and efficiency benefits of small unmanned aircraft system applications at the Memphis International Airport through FedEx aircraft inspections, delivery of FedEx aircraft parts in day and night operations, airport perimeter security, and support of various airport safety inspections.
In May 2018, Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority (MSCAA) was selected as one of 10 lead applicants by the U.S. Department of Transportation to participate in the UAS IPP. The goal of the UAS IPP is to conduct advanced drone operations in selected airspaces to generate data and knowledge for future UAS policymaking. The focus of the Memphis IPP program is on aircraft inspections, security monitoring of the ramp, and security/perimeter fence surveillance at Memphis International Airport.
