De Beers, the South African diamond company, may invest around Rs. 100 crore on air-borne geophysical survey for locating diamond deposits in the Jharkhand districts of Lohardaga, Simdega, Gumla, and some areas of Ranchi district.
Besides diamonds the survey would identify base metal deposits in the region.
De Beers has invested Rs. 65 crore in mining in several states including Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka through its arm De Beers India Prospective Ltd. The company would start mining once the aerial survey had identified locations.
