Cobra Electronics partners with Maxwood Technology to produce breakthrough GPS products

Cobra Electronics Corp. a manufacturer of mobile communication products, has announced the formation of a strategic alliance with Maxwood Technology LTD., an affiliate and partner of NIKKO Electronics BHD and NIKKO CO., LTD.-the world’s largest producer of remote control products. The partnership will entail the production of Cobra’s new hand-held GPS (Global Positioning System) products, a totally new consumer electronics category for Cobra with tremendous potential. Cobra’s new GPS product line will be on display at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) from January 8th to 11th. As a result of the strategic alliance with Maxwood, Cobra brings to market three hand-held GPS units featuring industry breakthrough features. All three of the units — the GPS 100, the GPS 500 and the GPS 1000 — are waterproof and include a route feature. The GPS 500 and GPS 1000 models offer Points of Interest, World Wide Cities and State Boundaries. A PC interface in the GPS 500 and GPS 1000 enables users to download points of interest and navigation information from a personal computer. The GPS 1000 can download street level detail with an additional memory card. The GPS 1000 also includes a US Highway map featuring all interstates. The GPS 100 has a suggested retail price of $129.95, the GPS 500 is $179.95 and the GPS 1000 is priced at $209.95.
