US: The City of Springfield, Office of Planning & Economic Development, is planning a significant overhaul of its online Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping tool.
The new website will further help members of the public seeking property information and will soon be made available across a host of new platforms including mobile devices running on Android and iOS as well as desktop operating systems including Windows, Mac, and Linux. The upgrades will also allow for enhanced public safety use as both the city police and fire departments rely heavily on GIS mapping.
The GIS mapping overhaul is one component of a number of information technology projects underway in Springfield. This city's IT department is working with other departments to provide more data online for the constituents.
